CONTACT (Consciousness in Interaction) is funded as part of the European Science Foundation’s EUROCORES scheme, Consciousness in the Natural and Cultural Context.

CONTACT plans to investigate the role that interaction with the social and natural world plays in enabling conscious experience. The Edinburgh group will be concerned with:

  • the neural correlates of consciousness
  • two-visual systems and its implications for dynamic sensorimotor accounts of consciousness
  • consciousness and the will
  • the bodily and narrative self

CONTACT’s project leader is Professor Cristiano Castelfranchi of the Institute of Cognitive Sciences and Technologies in Rome. The Edinburgh group is led by Professor Andy Clark; other members of the project include Professor Susan Hurley (Bristol), Professors Ed Tan and Nico Fridja (Amsterdam), Professor Thomas Metzinger (Mainz) and Professor Enrico Rambaldi (Milan).
